.xxx domains created by ICANN for profits

.xxx domains are nothing new having been made available to the public in 2011. Many in the adult industry didn’t want the .xxx domains to be made available as it would accomplish nothing and be more of a money grab by ICANN.

ICANN claims that the purpose of these domains was to offer it to the adult community but they appear to have been targeting many non adult companies by driving a fear that someone might acquire their own brand.xxx and link that company to porn. Who do you think owns these domains?

Of course many corporations are going to be buying these domains just to protect their brand name. Porn isn’t going to be moving to the .xxx domains anytime soon unless google and the other search engines like bing decide to give higher rankings to these domains over the typical .com domains. Even if this did happen there would be a massive uproar over doing this as in google’s situation, might violate their rules they put in place for their search algorithms.

A bigger reason why these TLDs (top level domains) for .xxx won’t or shouldn’t rank well is because of Google’s algorithm for placing importance of a domain’s age and history. That is a site that is 10 years old has in theory, more reputation and older content than something new like a .xxx domain.

Are .xxx domains good for anything?

.xxx domains are still worth something and that is to whomever wants to buy them. If you have a chance to buy porn.xxx for $20 you would be stupid not to take this up however many of the stronger keywords for .xxx have already been taken. So if you want to buy domains and like to sell them, .xxx might have some value.

So if you really must get your domains, try GoDaddy and get a 20% discount.
